[edit] Hot Topics

  • Comprehensive Education - Schools are under pressure to emphasize instruction in the core subjects due to recent federal and state accountability requirements, higher education admission standards and pre-collegiate curricula in high schools. Some are concerned that this emphasis detracts from comprehensive education: early education, family literacy, parental involvement, civic engagement, arts, physical education, health and nutrition education, multicultural learning, and gifted and talented programs.
  • Closing the Achievement Gap - Wisconsin‘s African-American, Hispanic, and Native American students, and poor students score worse on standardized tests than their white, Asian, and wealthier counterparts. Similar differences are true for high school graduation and drop out rates. The state is exploring ways to reduce these achievement gaps.
